Two Weeks Plus

It has been a busy 2 weeks and a bit since I last posted to the blog. Greg Van Schoyck arrived back at Bohoc Wednesday 11 October.

Sophie and Ti Boots were very happy to see him. I was too. The next day we started a very intense week of working on teacher salaries and other school issues that needed to be worked out. We also started getting ready for the first group of visitors for the 2006 - 2007 team season. That team is gone now and I am ready to bring the blog up to date.

Wednesday and Thursday 11 and 12 October were the first 2 meetings of the Bon Jen Fanm class -- the Young Godly Woman class. Here are Dieula, Junie, Danise, Lumenia, Nannecie, Adna, Phara, Gladise in the back and Talita, Joanne Nancie, Judithe, and Ivika on the first day of class.  

On those 2 days, after opening with a hymn and prayer,

we studied the Proverbs 31 woman as we had the day before with the women in the Bon Fanm class.

We also did some ice breaking games. These photos are from 2 years ago, but the games are the same. The knot helps the girls see how we can accomplish things when we work together.

The second circle game shows how, when we all trust eachother and do our part, we can support more than we can on our own. 

October 17 & 18

Tuesday 17 October, Dr Jerry Pennington returned to Bohoc

and the Bon Fanm class learned about purity of heart, body and spirit. Mme Gesson and I lead them through a study of a number of scriptures

including a comparison of the Proverbs 31

and the Proverbs 7 women.  

In the afternoon, Mme Geordainie

and Mme Bibit taught the women how to embroider.

Wednesday 18 October the Bon Jen Fanm class learned to make muffins and quick breads. They made banana muffins and banana bread. They did a great job and the results were delicious!

Thursday the young women learned how to make tissue paper garlands. 

Wisconsin-Illinois Team

Monday 23 October, Dr Jeff Nelson from Elmhurst, Illinois and Lois Baker and Dr Eric Anderson of Monroe, Wisconsin arrived. Dr Eric has been to HAFF several times and was the leader of the team including Dr Jeff, his brother-in-law and Lois a retired physical therapist. 

Class Bon Fanm Tout Bon Day 3

Tuesday, while Greg took the doctors visiting home bound people in the Bohoc LaJeune area, Lois and I worked with the Bon Fanm class. We tried to teach tatting.

It was difficult to get the ideas across. We'll keep working at it till we get it!

In the afternoon, we taught knitting.

That went much more easily and some of the ladies got quite far with their mini scarf! 

Wednesday morning we were all in the HAFF medical clinic seeing sick people.

We saw a woman who had been bitten by a dog,

a young man with a very high fever and lots of high blood pressure.

We even showed Mme Telius and Mme Emmanuel how to do a microscopic test for malaria! 

Thursday morning we vaccinated 155 of the about 250 students at the school.

The Diptheria/Tetanus vaccine was the gift of the Metro Foundation through Dr Jeff.

Greg, Dr Jerry and I and our permanent and temporary clinic staff all got the vaccination and it was barely a prick.

The students had the full range of reactions from calm and cool to various degrees of distress!  

 

Thursday afternoon, the doctors saw some more patients and then went to Riske (about an hour's drive south) and saw 50 more people! Lois and I finished teaching the Bon Jen Fanm class to knit.

Friday, 27 October, yesterday, all the Americans plus 3 Haitians went to Coupeal to do a clinic in a church. With Drs Eric and Jeff and Mme Telius all seeing people, we saw about 81 people in 5 hours. There was one very sick girl -- possibly meningitis -- who rode back with us to the clinic near us in LaJeune to be under the Haitian doctor's care there. She is doing much better today. 

First Day of Klas Bon Fanm Tout Bon

Here are the ladies of the Klas Bon Fanm Tout Bon -- the Godly Woman class -- for 2006-2007! Yesterday, 10 October 2006, was their first day of class for the year. Left to right in front are J'Inuore, Josianie, Silfira, Ronise and Guerline. Left to right in the second row are Guylene, Lucianie, Benitha, Nelie and Linoise. These photos were taken late in the morning during one of the studies. Please keep these women in prayer this year, as they learn about how to have a home set apart for the Lord.

I lead the ladies in a study of Proverbs 31:10-31, the basis for the class.
Then Mme Desius, Mme Telius, Mme Bill, Mme Claude and Mme Smith along with Mme Louis Jean and Mme Niclaude (not in the photo) participated with the ladies in a round table discussion. The guests told about women in their own lives who showed the Proverbs 31 characteristics.
Then, Mme Smith taught the ladies how to make tissue paper garlands and flowers.
