In honor of Ag and Labor day, 1 May (but at a later date)....

Rhoda and Met Justin took a trip to distribute Moringa seedlings and chaya cuttings at a school in Savanette (as I reacall). Moringa and chaya are both very well adapted to the climate here and the leaves are high in nutrition. Each student went home with a cutting and a seedling to plant. 

Godly Woman Class Field Trip

Friday May 19, the Godly Woman class took a trip to the Papay Peasants' Movement (MPP) near Hinche.

Met Jacques Vilgar received the ladies and explained about MPP. How it came to be and what it does now.
After showing the ladies part of the program, Met Jacques turned them over to the agriculturalists to see the work on the land.  

They were shown many of the development projects MPP has going. They saw peanut butter manufacturing, starting with the propane fired, electric motor turned peanut roaster.
The new method of taking the skins off the roasted peanuts -- roll them around the bumbs on the bottom!
A motorized mill makes grinding the peanuts twice much easier.
Some of the finished product along with the hills of roasted, skinned, hand sorted but un-ground peanuts. The end product was delicious!

18 May -- Flag Day

May 18th was a quiet day at HAFF, but not in the community. It is Haiti's Flag Day and it was celebrated with marching bands

and elementary school students marching in formation.


Later there were speaches and the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegance and more formation drill demonstrations. It is a fun day. 

Welcome Matthew Motis!

Nothing special happened at HAFF in Haiti on 21 May, but that day introduced the newest HAFF/ECHO family member. Matthew Ryan Motis was born to Tim and Paige. I am looking forward to meeting him in the next few weeks. Thankfully his parents have kept us well informed with photos!

 

Ogdensburg and Potsdam NY Team

25 through 30 May a team of visitors came from Ogdensburg NY. Meaghan Remington, Joanne Douglas, Carol Smithers, Leah Lashomb, Justin Flack, Beth Kaufman, Amber, Micah and Scott Daby. Some of them were not visitors, but returning staff.

Scott and Amber and Micah Daby spent the 5 days in Haiti catching up with many of the many friends they had made during their 3 years at HAFF in the 1990's.

In between all the visiting, a lot of work got done as well.  

The team helped mothball HAFF for the summer.

They helped get ready for the Godly Woman class graduation.

They shared in devotions at school.

Scott taught a pastors' seminar 

and preached on Sunday in Riske.

They did home visitations both in Bohoc and in Riske.

They worked in the clinic

and helped Barb weigh her milk babies.
